The Sphere was designed by American architect Buckminster Fuller and completed in 1997. It is made of stainless steel and measures 24 feet in diameter. The Sphere is located on the campus of the Rotary International headquarters in Evanston, Illinois. The structure contains over two thousand metal panels, each inscribed with the name of a Rotary club from around the world. The Sphere was created to commemorate Rotary’s centennial celebration in 2005. At night, the Sphere is illuminated from within and casts a warm glow over the plaza below.
